Whether you are seeking individual or relationship counselling, my integrative counselling approach draws on a range of counselling theories which include, Person-Centred, CBT, Psychodynamic, Attachment, Gestalt, Systemic, Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT), Gottman, and Imago.
Our work together will always begin with a person-centred focus that is led and shaped by you. I will work relationally and collaboratively with you and adapt an integrative counselling approach that feels right for you.
As a trauma informed counsellor, I want to ensure you are able to explore your story safely by looking at your existing self-care plan and how you regulate your nervous system. I will introduce coping tools that you can use both inside and outside of our counselling sessions and we will work through your trauma at a safe pace that is led by you.
I can work creatively, using a range of creative tools, such as therapy cards, writing, drawing, mind mapping, sand story and clay work. A creative approach, can sometimes help remove any barriers and support you to share your story when words alone can be difficult. I have found creative communication can further support the therapeutic connection, which has been particularly helpful when working with neurodivergent clients.
If you are a couple or a relationship, I initially adopt a 5 phase assessment model that includes sessions together and individually. We will look at your relationships presenting issues, any predisposing factors (Family history, vulnerabilities etc), precipitating factors (any triggers), perpetuating factors (what keeps the issues going). and protective factors (relationship strengths). Gathering as much information about your relationship and untangling the threads supports me to collaboratively work together with you and map out a plan to move forward.
Counselling does require commitment, there is no quick fix, and it can feel like hard work at times. Ready to take the next step? Contact me by email and we can arrange a free 15 minute introductory call over Zoom.
